Try sample questions

Generated by the same engine as the Kollego course, at a level close to the entrance math. Pick an answer in your head, then open the solution.

  1. 1. Expand (x + 2)². What is the coefficient of x?

    • a5
    • b4
    • c3
    • d2
    Show solution

    Answer: 4

    (x + a)² = x² + 2ax + a².

    The middle term is 2·a·x = 4x.

  2. 2. Solve |x + 2| < 7. What is the width of the solution interval?

    • a15
    • b7
    • c13
    • d14
    Show solution

    Answer: 14

    |x − a| < b means a − b < x < a + b, an interval of width 2b.

    Solution: -9 < x < 5. Width = 5 − (-9) = 14.

  3. 3. Solve for x: 2(x + 1) = x + 5

    • a2
    • b-3
    • c3
    • d4
    Show solution

    Answer: 3

Expand, collect x-terms on one side, constants on the other, divide.

    Expand: 2x + 2 = x + 5, then isolate x.
