20 gaps. Complete each word.
A C-Test is a German reading and grammar test built from short texts. The first sentence is complete. After that, the second half of every second word is missing and you write it in. To fill a gap you need the word, its grammatical ending and the meaning of the sentence around it, so one short task checks vocabulary, grammar, spelling and reading together.
Most Studienkollegs use a C-Test in their entrance test, often with grammar, reading and a short writing task. Studienkolleg Frankfurt tests German only, with an electronic test on a computer that checks text understanding, grammar and spelling. Our Kolleg pages list what each Kolleg uses.
Each gap counts as one point. Usually only the exactly correct form counts, so a right word with a wrong ending or a spelling mistake earns nothing. Kollegs set their own pass marks.
Most Kollegs test at about B1 to B2. Each Kolleg sets its own test and pass mark.
Usually not. The gap needs the exact correct form, including the ending and spelling.
It is a variant of the cloze test, where words are removed from a text; in a C-Test only parts of words are removed.
